HSBC Strikes Multi‑Year AI Partnership With Google Cloud

HSBC has entered a multi‑year partnership with Google Cloud aimed at rapidly scaling artificial intelligence across the bank.

The agreement brings HSBC together with Google Cloud and DeepMind engineers to co‑develop new AI tools, including access to Gemini models and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. The bank expects the collaboration to generate more than 200 new AI use cases within two years, prioritising initiatives capable of delivering over US$100 million each in revenue gains or efficiency improvements. HSBC plans to use AI to reshape its wealth management services by pairing real‑time insights with human expertise, and will introduce an AI assistant for frontline staff to cut administrative and meeting‑prep work from hours to minutes.

In financial crime prevention, HSBC will deploy generative and agentic AI to detect risks earlier across nearly one billion monthly transactions, with the goal of intervening twice as fast when suspicious activity appears. Group CEO Georges Elhedery said AI is becoming a defining technology for delivering personalised customer experiences at scale while keeping human judgement at the centre. He added that the Google Cloud partnership will help equip employees with future‑ready tools and support the bank’s push toward a simpler, faster, more agile organisation.
